Frequently Asked Questions
General Care
How is 24/7 care different from regular home care services?
Regular home care services are usually provided for a set number of hours per day or week, depending on your family’s needs. 24/7 care means a caregiver is available around the clock to provide continuous support, supervision, and assistance. This is especially important for individuals with advanced conditions, safety concerns, or those who need help day and night.
Can you adjust the level of care as your loved one's needs change?
Yes. Care needs often evolve over time. We work closely with families and healthcare providers to regularly review and update the plan of care, ensuring it always matches your loved one’s current situation.
Is a home care agency better than hiring a private caregiver?
Yes. With an agency like Southern California Caregiving, you gain peace of mind knowing caregivers are screened, trained, insured, and backed by a reliable team. If a caregiver is unavailable, we ensure a qualified replacement is ready. Private arrangements may not provide this level of oversight or security.
Are services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?
Yes. We provide care when you need it most — mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays included. Families can count on us for consistent support, no matter the schedule.
Do you provide services in Assisted Living facilities?
Yes. We can provide additional in-home support for residents of assisted living, retirement communities, or nursing homes who need more one-on-one attention.
When is home care helpful?
Home care is helpful whenever a loved one needs support with daily activities, safety, companionship, or recovery — whether it’s after surgery, while living with a chronic condition, or simply to ease the burden on family caregivers.
Caregiver & Staffing
How do you screen your caregivers?
All caregivers go through a rigorous screening process, including background checks, reference checks, and in-depth interviews. We look for both skills and heart — making sure every caregiver we hire embodies compassion, patience, and reliability.
What types of training do you provide your caregivers? Are they trained for specific diagnosis, fall prevention, or Alzheimer's and dementia care?
Yes. Our caregivers receive ongoing training in areas such as Alzheimer’s and dementia care, fall prevention, chronic illness support, infection control, and client safety. We invest in training so families can feel confident their loved one is cared for by skilled, knowledgeable professionals.
Can I choose which caregiver will work with my loved one?
We do our best to match caregivers based on personality, cultural background, language, and skills. Your comfort and trust matter, so we aim to make the right connection from the start.
What if my caregiver is sick or on vacation?
We take care of scheduling so you don’t have to worry. If your caregiver is unavailable, we’ll arrange a trained replacement to ensure your loved one’s care is never interrupted.
Are your caregivers W-2 employees of your company?
Yes. Our caregivers are employees, not contractors. This means they’re covered by our insurance, payroll, and benefits, ensuring security and accountability for both families and staff.
Can I have more than one care provider?
Yes. Some families choose multiple caregivers for 24/7 shifts or for flexibility. We’ll coordinate a care team that works seamlessly to support your loved one.
What if I would like to choose a new caregiver?
Absolutely. If the first match isn’t the right fit, just let us know. We’ll quickly arrange another caregiver who better suits your loved one’s needs.
Types of Care
What is companion care?
Companion care focuses on providing social interaction and emotional support — things like conversations, walks, playing games, meal companionship, and accompanying your loved one to appointments.
What is considered light housekeeping?
Light housekeeping covers household tasks that keep your loved one’s environment safe and comfortable — such as laundry, dishes, sweeping, dusting, changing linens, and taking out the trash.
What is a Plan of Care?
A Plan of Care is a personalized guide that outlines your loved one’s daily needs, health considerations, and goals. It’s created in partnership with the family (and physicians if needed), and it ensures caregivers provide consistent, appropriate support.
What is personal care?
Personal care includes hands-on help with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, medication reminders, and meal preparation.
What are ADLs? (And what are IADLs?)
- ADLs (Activities of Daily Living): Basic self-care tasks like bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and mobility.
- IADLs (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living): More complex tasks that support independent living, such as cooking, managing finances, taking medications, transportation, and housekeeping.
